We are delighted to share that Tended won the Geospatial Initiative of the Year category at this year’s Digital Leaders 100.

Now in its 11th year, the Digital Leaders 100 is a prestigious initiative that represents the 100 most impressive organisations and individuals in the UK that are pioneering change and working hard behind the scenes to secure the UK’s Digital Transformation.

Receiving over 450 entries in total this year, the judges initially selected their top 100 entries which were added to a shortlist across ten different categories, each with ten finalists, thus creating the initial Digital Leaders 100 list for 2023.

Then, during a meticulous judging process, the ultimate runner-up and winner for each category were selected and announced at the awards ceremony on the 22nd of June at Leeds Royal Armouries.

Taking home the trophy for Geospatial Initiative of The Year, the Tended team were told on the night that the judge’s decision "was easy to make as the vote was 100% unanimous”.

Tended took home the award for Geospatial Initiative of the Year, collected by Andrew Wood (Head of Hardware Engineering), Manoj Elangovan (Design and Production Engineer) and Alex Chapman (Lead Embedded Systems Engineer).

The Geospatial Innovation of The Year category is for any product or service pioneering the use of geospatial data and Tended’s technology has been recognised for its application of geofencing to help prevent accidents and near misses on the railway.

To win, Tended’s geofencing technology beat the likes of What3Words, LNER, ONS and several more impressive initiatives, all of which can be viewed here.

Commenting on the win, Tended’s Head of Hardware Engineering Andrew Wood said: “I speak for the entire Tended team when I say we are all absolutely over the moon to win this award, which has been made even more remarkable by the fact we’ve beaten some pretty serious competition! To be at the ceremony and hear from the judges directly that they loved our entry was incredible, especially when we were told that their decision was unanimous. We’ve all worked so hard to build, test and launch this life-saving geospatial technology over the past few years, and so to win such a prestigious award is a testament to the team’s commitment and dedication to improving safety in the railway industry. Well done all!”

Winning huge awards such as the Digital Leaders 100 helps us to gain recognition for the life-saving benefits of geofencing technology. By catalysing its use across the railway industry, we can help to improve safety for as many track workers as possible, helping to get everyone home safe - every day.
