We took five minutes out of the day to chat with Roshan to help everyone get to know him a little better...

Can you tell us a bit about your background as an Aerospace Engineer?

Since a young age, I have been passionate about aircraft and aerospace technology. As someone with a BEng degree in aerospace engineering, I have a strong foundation in various engineering disciplines, including aerodynamics, materials, structures, propulsion, and control systems. My studies at university involved practical applications and projects related to aircraft design and aerospace technology and being tasked with various research projects has provided me with hands-on experience and exposure to real-world aerospace challenges. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to explore specific areas of interest within the field, such as avionics, and propulsion systems.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience on the railway and how this will tie into your new role at Tended?

I have excellent teamwork, communication, conceptual and critical thinking skills which is reflected in my recent job as a Railway Trackman. When carrying out maintenance work and being part of a track team, quick thinking is essential and it is imperative to solve problems quickly with close attention to detail, in order to meet the demanding needs of Network Rail. As a railway trackman, large pieces of information need to be broken down and understood before the maintenance team is allowed on the track. During this initial communication, it is important that everyone is aware of their tasks of the day and that these tasks are carried out in a timely manner. If these maintenance works are not carried out within the time frame, it causes severe disruptions in the rail network. By bringing my skills and expertise to Tended, I hope to be able to help change safety standards in the rail industry and help build a safer working environment for the workforce.

How do you think the work Tended is doing will impact the railway industry?

Tended is at the forefront of the industry, and I think we have technology that will help revolutionize the safety side of the rail industry. It will help break down the existing safety infrastructure, which is severely outdated, and help to eliminate the occurrence of accidents and help to promote a safer working environment where employees feel safe.

What are you most looking forward to about working at Tended?

I look forward to being able to grow within my role at Tended and to build expertise in my area of work. I look forward to being part of a team that is solely focused on safety and is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the clients. Working with Tended will allow me to enhance my knowledge and understanding of the issues that the rail industry faces, to be able to learn new skills but also build upon my existing skills which will help innovate the safety standards in the rail industry. More than anything I am excited to take part in revolutionizing the safety standards of railway workers and support innovation, essentially helping the industry to prosper.

What motivates you at work?

Working as part of a team where I feel like I am valued. Building new relationships with co-workers and clients. Learning new skills and enhancing my knowledge.

What’s going to be the most exciting part about your job?

The most exciting part of my job will be that I will be directly involved in work at the trackside, I will build a close working relationship with trackmen as well as clients, this way I’ll gain information about the issues that the railway industry faces, as well as what their expectations are regarding safety. I will be able to use that information to work with my team at Tended to be able to address and eliminate these issues.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I love to read about the latest tech. I am also passionate about fashion, architecture and art. I am an avid cinephile and music listener and I also occasionally compose music myself. I taught myself the electric guitar in the summer of 2022 and I am hoping to move on to learning the piano soon.

How would your friends describe you?

My friends would describe me as someone who is curious-minded, motivated and hard-working and someone who thrives under pressure. Someone who is always inspired to find new and innovative ways to do things.

What’s something you’re proud of doing in your lifetime?

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject and also being the first generation to graduate is my proudest achievement. I took responsibility to support my mother financially by working two jobs whilst also continuing my studies at university. I am a hard-working individual and despite the challenges that I faced, I still managed to successfully complete my engineering degree. Not only that, but I also excelled in my career in the rail industry and continued to gain licenses and certifications which helped me climb up the ranks.

It's fantastic to have you with us, Roshan!
